Five Minute Marketing: How to Find New Customers on Social Media

How to Find New Customers on Social Media

Let me start off with a disclaimer: there are literally books written about this topic that I’m covering in a five minute marketing segment, so I am by no means claiming to cover it all with one article. I can, however, share some effective strategies most of my clients aren’t already using to find new customers using social media.

My second disclaimer is that although this article will only take about five minutes to read, the strategies themselves will require time and consistency, since nothing done randomly can be effectively repeated. With all that said, here are some things you can do right now to find new clients using Facebook, Instagram, and more!

1) Get online reviews.
Reviews on Google, Facebook, and other sites like Yelp provide loads of benefits. They increase the trust factor for new clients and can actually improve your ranking on search engines and social media sites. I will write another blog on exactly how to get more online reviews but if you haven’t started yet, now is the time!

2) Get local.
This is especially important if you are a brick-and-mortar business or when most of your services are local, but the advice can apply to anyone. Get involved with events in your local community, visit stores and restaurants in your backyard, then use social media to check in to the location, mention the event/store, and interact with others who have recently visited the same place. In addition to showing up when people search for that location, your content might be re-shared by the business or event you visited!

3) Give more than you get.
If I’ve learned this once, I’ve learned it a thousand times. Don’t expect everyone to comment on and like your posts if you aren’t doing the same. Interact meaningfully with other business owners, past clients, and even potential new clients to stay top of mind and increase your engagement and reach on social media. My own business has been found through friends-of-friends-of-friends, so you never know how you might get discovered!

4) Find your ideal hashtags…then use them to find your ideal customers.
Hashtags should not just be put up at random to increase the reach of your post, because if you’re reaching the wrong people then it doesn’t matter how many see them! Do your research and instead of using the most popular hashtags or the same ones as others in your industry, find out what your customers are posting and what hashtags they are using. Then search the hashtags and interact with the posts. It will expand your reach in a whole new way! Learn how to find the right hashtags HERE.
