3 Things to do Each Month for SEO
The #1 problem I encounter with business owners and their SEO is lack of understanding about what it is and how they can improve their search engine rankings. While I’ve written a lot of content geared towards those issues (click here to see more), I wanted to give a small list of things anybody can do once a month to help their SEO, even if they have no technical knowledge and limited time. Read on to find out exactly what you can do!
1) Create new written content OR update old content.
Ideally, you should be adding new content to your website or blog on a regular basis. Whether you choose a written, audio, or visual medium, make sure to include the keywords that work best for your business in the post. Videos are great, but until Google can scan these for the transcript (I believe that’s coming in the future!), you’ll need to add some bullet points or a brief description to help your search engine rankings.
Alternatively, if you don’t have time to create something new, go and edit a portion of your website. While this won’t be as helpful to SEO, it will still send a signal to Google that your content is fresh and relevant. Bonus points if you can add a link to another page on your website to help retain your audience!
2) Update your Google My Business page.
I do this about once a month, and it takes 5-10 minutes at most! Re-purpose a piece of content you’ve already shared, whether a blog post, video, or podcast, and post it on your Google My Business page. This sends good signals to Google, shows that you are still active in your business to potential customers, and is a quick and easy way to stay top of mind.
3) Take a look at your analytics.
So many business owners have installed Google Analytics (or have a similar tool built into their website platform), but never truly take a look at the massive amount of data this provides. While there are a ton of different directions you can go, I’d recommend taking a look at these two things:
-Your most popular piece of content in the last month (make sure this is updated and relevant to your business goals).
-The top source of traffic for your website (this will help inform where the efforts you invest in social media and other areas are paying off).
Simply looking at those metrics can be incredibly eye-opening to show the strengths and weaknesses of your website. Click here if you want a little more information about how to evaluate your analytics.
Making sure your website’s Search Engine Optimization score is high does not have to take a lot of time or money, but it can be tremendously helpful to your business in the long-term. Add these three easy and important tasks to your monthly calendar, and keep working your way up the Google rankings!
