Is Search Engine Optimization (SEO) Expensive?
Business owners are always on a budget, and good business owners think hard about how they choose to spend their money. I completely understand, because I’m right there in the trenches with you! When it comes to thinking about one more thing to pay for in regards to marketing, it is understandable to recoil a little bit at the thought. So, does Search Engine Optimization have to be expensive? And is it really worth it?
The short answer: SEO does not have to be expensive to be effective.
If you can’t spend money, you might need to spend a little more time - but even that does not have to be overwhelming! In my online SEO course, I simply ask for one hour per week of time investment to create sustainable, lasting results.
The first place to start is by doing a little research. There are tons of great free resources, including SEO posts on my blog, Moz, and more. Read about the basics of SEO so you can get a framework for where to go.
The next step, if you can’t afford to hire someone who can review your website, is to create content that will answer the questions and problems of your ideal customer. What solution do you offer through what you provide? Use that as the basis for writing blog posts, creating videos, recording podcasts, and all the other areas of content you provide - just make sure there is text to accompany any video/audio so you can take advantage of keywords!
Finally, at the most basic level, rinse and repeat this formula. Read a little more, do a little keyword research (use sites like Google Trends or Answer the Public for content ideas), and continue to create. Find out what resonates with your audience, and double down on that content. And, as your business grows, you might just be able to pay someone to handle the basic and advanced parts of SEO for your website.
Above all, make sure you start today.
Don’t get caught in the paralysis trap of not being able to have the perfect SEO strategy - start to create, get better as you go, and know that the only place you have to go from here is up…on Google!
